 A country with a rich soccer tradition, Sweden has one of the best teams the country has produced for many a year. Confidence and expectation are high as the Swedes look to progress further than the last 16.
Sweden qualified itself for the World Cup in Germany as the best European runner-up, winning eight of 10 games. But it was still only enough for second place in Group 8. It was precisely these two losses against Croatia, which cost Sweden the group win. Croatia ended up leading the group, as it had the better goal difference. |  Midfielder Frederick Ljungberg from Arsenal London, striker Henrik Larsson from FC Barcelona and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Juventus Turin) are the outstanding performers in the Scandinavian team.
