After failing to qualify for the past two World Cups, Switzerland got its ticket to Germany through play-offs. In this final round, the team faced Turkey, which came in third in the 2002 World Cup. Following a 2:0 home win in Berne, the game in Istanbul ended 2:4. But the match was marred by tumultuous scenes between players after the game ended. Switzerland in the end narrowly came out on top and is heading to Germany. |  The star player in the team is goal scorer Alexander Frei from Stade Rennais. But the striker had to have surgery on his groin and is fearing for his World Cup participation.
